Department of Culture

The Department of Culture in Sharjah has been instrumental in transforming the Emirate into a cultural and intellectual hub. Under the visionary leadership of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohamed Al Qasimi, it has nurtured a rich cultural tradition, attracting talent and ideas from far and wide.

Over the past four decades, Sharjah has witnessed significant growth in its cultural infrastructure, with universities, museums, galleries, and cultural preparation centers for youth, women, and children. The Emirate consistently hosts diverse cultural and artistic events throughout the year.

To further its commitment to cultural development, His Highness issued Emiri Decree No. (20) in 1981, establishing the “Cultural Department,” later known as the “Department of Culture and Media.” This department, now simply the “Department of Culture,” continues to expand its cultural agenda, reaching a global audience while adhering to the visionary slogan: “Enough of the concrete revolution, and let us turn to building people.”

The Emirates Fine Arts Society 

The Emirates Fine Arts Society (EFAS) holds a prominent position as a non-profit organization, enriching the artistic landscape since its establishment in 1980. With its unwavering commitment to fostering creativity and innovation, EFAS has become an indispensable cornerstone of the art scene in the UAE. Over the years EFAS has actively nurtured a dynamic environment for artistic expression and exploration, and has contributed significantly to the growth and development of the arts in the UAE.

Executive Director

Salem Al Juneibi is an Emirati Visual Artist, Writer, Curator, and the Executive Director of AlTashkeel magazine, based in Sharjah. He served as the President of the Emirates Fine Art Society for five years, from May 2018 to May 2023. Throughout his career, he has been actively involved in overseeing various exhibitions, art events, and art publications. Additionally, he has served on numerous jury committees.

he first issue of “Al Tashkeel” Magazine was published back in 1984, four years after the formation of the Emirates Fine Arts Society. The fine arts movement was witnessing growth and gaining traction on all other artistic levels.
